Spring Dog Walk Checklist

Everything You Need for a Fun and Safe Adventure!

Spring is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy fresh air with your furry family member! As the weather warms up and spring emerges, our dog will love exploring the outdoors after months of chilly winter walks. But before you hit the trails or stroll through the par, it is important to be PUPared! Here is a guide to ensure your spring dog walks are enjoyable and safe for both you and your pup.

Watch The Weather

Spring weather can be unpredictable! Be sure to check the forecast before heading out to avoid unexpected rain and high winds. On warm days, be mindful as the pavement begins to heat up in the spring, which can be harsh on your dog’s paws.

Use a Sturdy Leash and Harness

Springtime brings lots of distractions like squirrels, birds and other dogs. A strong, comfortable leave and harness help maintain control and keep your pup safe and happy.

Watch Out for Puddles and Mud

Spring often means melting snow and rain, creating puddles and muddy paths Wipe your dog’s paws after walks to avoid tracking dirt into your home. And ensure you are checking their paws for any hidden debris or injuries.

Seasonal Allergies

Just like humans, dogs can suffer from seasonal allergies. Keep an eye out for excessive scratching, sneezing or watery eyes during the spring season. If you notice any signs, consult your veterinarian for advice on managing your dog’s allergies.

Protect Against Fleas and Ticks

Spring marks the return of fleas and ticks in many areas of the country, especially in grassy or wooded areas. Make sure your dog if on a wet-recommended flea and tick prevention plan and check them thoroughly after walks.
